HAPPY LABOR DAY!

Can you believe it?? Labor Day, the traditional "end of summer" blowout is upon us! Where did the summer go? It seems like time is moving faster and faster. Perhaps because here in Georgia we've had the wettest summer on record and so many activities have been 'drowned out'.
Speaking of rain, DID YOU KNOW?
  • The Chattahoochee River supplies 70% of metro Atlanta with its drinking water?
  • The Flint River begins in a drainage ditch at the base of Hartsfield International Airport?
  • Alabama, Florida and Georgia have been waging a 'water war' over how to share water from  the Chattahoochee River since 1992?
  • The Chattoochee River is the southernmost habitat for trout?
All true. Also true: Keep Walton Beautiful and Recycling Center will be closed Saturday, August 31 and Monday September 2 in honor of Labor Day. Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!

Volunteering

VOLUNTEERING AT KWB

Did you know that Keep Walton Beautiful has been around since 1980? Yessir, we've been around the block a few times! KWB depends on a wide variety of volunteers, organizations, schools and businesses throughout Walton County to assist with programs encouraging envirnomental education year round, and we need YOU!
Projects include THE GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP - now a year round effort that includes such events as neighborhood, road and river cleanups, school activities, document destruction and Earth Day. RIVERS ALIVE is held annually in the fall and focuses on cleaning up the county's rivers, lakes and streams. AMERICA RECYCLES DAY is held November 15 and involves public education of the benefits and methods of recycling. BEAUTIFICATION assists with landscaping area parks, schools and public locations, including Arbor Day. BRING ONE FOR THE CHIPPER, of course, is the Christmas Tree Recycling Program that takes place every January. There's a lot to do!
By volunteering with KWB, you can become an important part of improving our community and the quality of life for every Walton County citizen. It will  save resources, money AND give you that warm, fuzzy feeling!
Give us a call at 770-267-1421 or check out our website at http://www.waltoncountyga.gov/KWB/KWB.html
